The PERFECT breast milk storage bags- and I’ve tried them all!
I’ve been pumping for years, and even though my youngest earthside babe is now 4, I still continue to pump and donate to babies in need in honor of my baby who passed late in utero. So with that, I am no novice to pumping and storing. I’ve used probably about 20+ different brands of breast milk storage bags over the years. These bags are an easy top 5 for me. They are easy to operate, seal well, are leak free even after freezing and thawing, and the color changing feature is amazing and oddly super accurate, as you can see in my photos. They are easy to label, seal, and are thicker than your average storage bag without taking up extra room in freezer bags for breast milk “bricks”, so I can still fit the same number in each gallon freezer bag.To try out the color changing feature, I had a bowl of hot water and a bowl of ice water to play around with bringing the temp of breast milk up and down quickly. I also used an instant read thermometer which is very accurate, and the one I use frequently for yogurt making. My freshly pumped milk turned the color circle from purple (cold or room temp) to blue (just right temp up to 104F) within about 10 seconds of adding it, and I did an instant read on the temp and it was showing 97.3 F. I then thawed one of the frozen ones in hot water and of course, you can’t pay perfect attention to the color circle while it’s in the water bath because it will change to white (too hot) quickly since the water bath temp was 115F, but I kept taking it out as it was mostly thawed and it’d turn to purple pretty quickly (too cold). I did several dips at that point with the thermometer in it and it made me realize just how quickly liquid gold breast milk can overheat, hence why having a temp circle indicator is so handy. Within a minute of it thawing and sitting in the hot water bath, it went from about 92F to 106F. I didn’t realize how quickly it heats! I then let it sit for a few minutes out of the water bath until the color circle showed blue. Then I did a quick read within seconds of it turning blue (just right) and it showed 103.5F, which is at the high end of just right (up to 104), which tells me this is legit super accurate. I then cooled it in the water bath until the temp showed 96ish F, left it out a moment to see if the color should change, but it stayed white. The color indicator is extremely precise. I wasn’t expecting it to change colors so close to the thresholds, but it did. The moment the temperature crossed one of the thresholds, the color would change accordingly. Very cool technology.I use the scale method for getting every bag right at 4 oz when pouring from the pump bottles, and the measurement on storage bags is never exact, but close. The one pictured I didn’t measure out since I was just testing it for temp and the heating and cooling experiment made me feel it wasn’t safe to use, so I did discard it after by throwing it in my son’s bath water. By weight with the bag tared / zero’d out, I added 2.46oz of milk, and in the bag, it’s showing about 2.5 oz by volume, so that actually does feel pretty accurate. The bag says it can hold up to 7oz of milk which does feel correct. It can of course hold more than that and still seal, but because frozen breast milk expands when it freezes, you definitely wouldn’t want to add more than 7oz or else you run the risk of the bag tearing or leak during thawing. I find 4-5oz allows it to freeze perfectly flat when using freeze flat or the sheet pan method, if if you’re not worried about fitting things just right in gallon freezer bags. Adding up to 7oz should work great.I truly recommend these breast milk storage bags. I only wish I’d found them sooner!

Pour spout is genius!
Initial impressions I was a little smiffed the bags were smaller than what I consider the “standard” size given three brands, same size bags. However man oh man the bags are awesome! First off bags are made of durable plastic and the seal is tight/secure. The bags do have temperature indication on them but even with digital temp meters use your own jusdgement and test against tender skin to ensure the milk is not too hot for your little one. I do like the bigger, and designated, areas to write data on the bags as I’ve been annoyed other bags have a tiny area for writing normally with a permanent marker. Thd best feature in my book though? The side pour spout! Seriously, amazing addition! I did not see that detail in the description or photos but alas bam there it is! No more heating a bag and pouring out the top – don’t open all the way and likely to waste milk, accidentally lose grip and the wide opening means milk everywhere, etc. With the easy to use side pour spot you can leave the top zipped, cut the spout, and bam a designated pour area that is easy to control. In my nook excellent value for the money and love these bags!

Some quirks, good value.
These are a pretty good value, for about $20 you get 200 bags. One thing I will say is that the sizing increment is a little strange. Most bags hold an even number of fluid ounces- 6, 8, or 10. These bags hold 7 ounces. Not a major flaw, just…odd.They claim to be medical grade. I’m not really sure what makes a breast milk storage bag “medical grade”? Maybe the fact that these are BPA free.Of course, the little pour spout is a nice feature, as well as the temperature indicator. I’ve always found that breast milk bag temperature indicators are unnecessary and that you should test the temperature yourself for true safety. I don’t think I would ever really trust a plastic bag to make temperature judgements for my child.The design of the bag is not my favorite. It is semi transparent and semi opaque. One frustrating thing is that the portion that is opaque covers near the zipper line. This is really frustrating when trying to remove all of the air out of the bag. I can’t judge how close the milk is getting to the zipper line very well. That sometimes will lead to me pushing just a little too far and spilling some milk.That said, these are a good bargain and though they are not the thickest plastic I’ve ever worked with, they do feel more sturdy than some other brands.
